Bluegrass Band Competition

Registration is now open to enter your group in the 2nd Annual Poke Salat Festival Bluegrass Band Competition, held May 19, 2018, sponsored by the Arab Chamber of Commerce.


There is no fee to enter, and the winning band will receive a $500 prize, plus a 30 minute spot as an opening act for the eveningís headliner bands on the Main Stage. (Headliners TBA)


Registrations must be in by May 1, 2018.


Each competitor will perform two songs in a 10-12 minute set.


Performances will be judged on the quality of lead and harmony vocals, instrumental capability, overall sound, as well as stage presence and professionalism. A panel of judges will determine placement and their decision is final.


In addition to a first prize of $500, the second place group will receive $300 with $200 for third. All stage audio equipment will be provided.


The Poke Salat Festival, in itís 34th year, is a long standing tradition in North Alabama and will be held May 18-19th. Saturday is dedicated to Bluegrass with the competition and a stage filled with evening entertainment. In addition to the competition and entertainment, streets and parking lots are filled with artisans and vendors showcasing a variety of products; a childrenís play area with inflatables, train and pony rides and games; a full food court and local restaurants featuring a wide array of food, including the star of the show: Poke Salat. Admission to the Festival is free. Everyone is encouraged to bring chairs and stay the day.


Contest begins at 11 am. All competitors should register no later than 10:30. At 10:30, coordinators will draw the names of the competitors from a hat to set the order of performances.
